A community-led reef protection initiative from Siargao, Philippines — open-sourced so anyone can do the same in their own waters.

This is the open knowledge base of the Adopt-A-Mooring-Line (AAML) project. We are a small dive and surf community on Siargao Island who got tired of watching boat anchors break our reef. So we decided to do something about it.
We are not experts. We are residents — divers, surfers, boatmen, restaurant owners, barangay folks — who learned how to do this by doing it. We made mistakes. Some lines were stolen. Some installations failed. Some paint wouldn't stick. We figured it out.
We're publishing everything we've learned so that another community — in Cebu, Bohol, Palawan, La Union, Mindoro, anywhere with a reef under pressure — doesn't have to start from zero.
Start with Overview if you want to understand why we did this and what we believe in.
Skip to Getting Started if you already know the why and you just want to know how — partners, equipment, costs, first steps.
Read Lessons Learned before you spend a single peso. Seriously. We wish we had read it first.
Use Case Studies to see what one installed line actually looks like, end to end, from first scouting dive to the day it held its first boat.
Everything else — Technical Guides, Community Engagement, Fundraising, Templates, FAQ — is reference. Open it when you need it.
If you copy this model in your own community, tell us. We want to know. Send a photo of your first installed line — that is the whole point of this wiki.
